Development of a Game Plan

As a coach, I must always try to be one of the reasons my team wins. I will never be one of the reasons my team looses.

To accomplish this, I must develop my coaching skills to become a focused, insightful coach who is capable of observing the fundamental components of the game and quickly identify the critical elements that will enable me to direct my team's tactics towards victory.

To this end I will prepare a game plan for each match. This game plan will list specific goals that my team wants to accomplish. This game plan will include team information that will enable me to make tactical substitutions in personnel and lineups. This game plan will enable me to adjust to adverse situations due to injuries or lack of personnel. This game plan will enable me to be able to make the tactical changes during a game to take advantage of the opponent's weakness or prevent an opponent's strength from overwhelming my team.

This game plan will enable me to remain focused on my team's tactics and psychological state instead of yielding to the overwhelming amount of stimulus that reaches me during a game.

To ensure a successful game plan, I will, whenever possible, prepare a scouting report. This scouting report will tell my team:

  1. The opponent's rotations
  2. Each rotation's strengths and weaknesses
  3. Describe the team's overall strengths and weaknesses
  4. The psychological strengths and weaknesses of the opponent
  5. Formulate a game plan to take advantage of the opponent's weakness or prevent an opponent's strength from overwhelming my team.
